Taylor

"Taylor"

They say Taylor was a good girl
never one to be late
complain express ideas in her brain
Working on the night shift
passin out the tickets
you're gonna have to pay her
if you want to park here.
Well mommy's little dancer's
quite a little secret
working on the streets now
never gonna keep it.
It's quite an imposition
And now she's only wishin'
That she would have listened
To the words they said.
Poor Taylor.

Well she just wanders around unaffected by the winter winds, yeah
and she'll pretend that
well she's somewhere else
so far and clear
about 2,000 miles from here.

Peter Patrick pitter patters on the window
And Sunny Silhouette won't let him in
and poor old Pete's got nothin 'cause he's been fallin'
but somehow Sunny knows just where he's been
He thinks that singin' on a Sunday's gonna save his soul
but now that Saturday's gone
Well sometimes he thinks that he's on his way
but I can see, that his break lights are on

And he just wanders around unaffected by the winter winds, yeah
and he'll pretend that
well he's somewhere else
so far and clear
about 2,000 miles from here.

She's such a tough enchilada
filled up with nada
givin' what you gotta give to get a dollar bill
she used to be a limber chick
time's a been tickin'
now she's finger licking to the man
with the money in his pocket
flying in his rocket
only stoppin by on his way to a better world
if Taylor finds a better world
Taylor's gonna run away

"Slide" - The Goo Goo Dolls
Could you whisper in my ear
The things you wanna feel
I'd give you anythin'
To feel it comin'

Do you wake up on your own?
And wonder where you are
You live with all your faults

I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all
So why don't you slide
Yeah I'm gonna let it slide

Don't you love the life you killed
The priest is on the phone
Your father hit the wall
Your ma disowned you

Don't supposed I'll ever know
What it means to be a man
Somethin' I can't change
I'll live around it

I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all
So why don't you slide
Slide

And I'll do anythin'
You ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall

Oh May
Put your arms around me
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net ]

What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh May
Do you wanna get married
Or run away?

And I'll do anythin'
You ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall

Oh May
Put your arms around me
What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh May
Do you wanna get married
Or run away?

I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all

And I'll do anythin'
You ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall

And I'll do anythin'
You ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall

Yeah, slide between the sheet
Of all the beds you never knew
Why don't you slide into my room
Just slide into my room
Oh, we'll run away, run away, run away

Short Story
“Love Story” -Taylor Swift

Living in such a wealthy popular family was often tough for a girl like Julia Stoleman. Constantly trying to live up to standards and keep her parents proud was one of the most stressful things that happened in her life. When Julia falls she falls hard. Her friends and family treat her like royalty but she can not help the sense of loneliness that she had been feeling lately.
Once Julia knew she had found the boy she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, she knew right away. This was enough to make her fall head over heals. The boy was not a typical boy and was not from the popular crowd, or the wealthy crowd that her parents were mostly associated with. Julia knew that her parents would instantly disapprove of her new love interest. She knew that things were going to have to change since Ryan, the new boy had asked her to a dance tonight at their High School. The dance was formal and Julia was very nervous about what she was going to be wearing. She had to find the perfect dress to make Ryan know that she was interested in him.
Once she was ready and felt she was up to her standards, she went to her friends house and went to the dance. She instantly looked around at everyone in their gowns and could spot him throughout everyone in the crowd, as if he were a big star. She hesitantly made her way through the crowd and he greeted her as a knight would, kneeling and taking one hand and kissing it. Once they started dancing Julia instantly knew she was in love. Ryan had alternate plans for them this weekend and Julia was hoping that her strict parents would not stand in the way.
When she got home she called all of her friends and told them about her magnificent night. They were all just as excited as she was. Until, her mother and father walked in the room to talk to her about the dance. Julia knew she could not leave out the details of her new love interest. She began at her story and her parents started looking at her instantly with disapproval. She knew this was going to be the dealbreaker about the plans Ryan had made for them this weekend. The Stolemans own a company in Julia’s town and her parents did a backround check on him. Apparently he is not well fitted for Julia and they will not allow her to see him. After Julia takes out her phone to text and tell him this she hears rocks at her window. She looks out to see Ryan standing there with a very disappointed look on his face. She sneaks out of her window and meets him at the garden and tells him what happened.
Julia told him that she did not care what her parents had to say and that she would love him no matter what. Ryan tried to explain to her that this was irrational and that she had to obey her parents or else they could never truly be together. He stayed away for a while and left Julia feeling hopeless. She began to sulk around and not leave her house. Her parents knew what was wrong yet were almost heartless in the situation. They did not care and they were not changing their mind. After a few weeks Julia decided that it was time to leave her house. She went out and of course she spotted him instantly.
Looking almost as sad as she did, Ryan pranced over like he was in a movie scene. He did not hesitate and took her into his arms. Julia was mesmerised in the moment and could not help like she was playing Juliet in the love saga of “Romeo and Juliet.” Ryan explains that he will talk to her father and they will work everything out. After time passes the two fall more and more in love. They are now no longer in high school and are no longer in their teens. Soon Julia is trying on a wedding dress and Ryan is asking her father for approval. Ryan and Julia got married and live happily ever after.

POS Song Comparison

The solo artist, Avril Lavigne is known as a great pop artist from the early to late 2000’s. Lavigne uses many different genres of music in her songs. She switches from hard rock to girly pop and mixes them into one. The Rubinoos are more of a laid back love song band. There are many songs that differ and have many similarities to one another with the same topic. Avril Lavignes song “Girlfriend” And the Rubinoo’s song “I wanna be your boyfriend” are a great example of this.
Avril Lavigne does have much of her own original twist to her song that makes it much different from the Rubinoo’s song “I wanna be your boyfriend”. One of the major differences if Avril’s song compared to the Rubinoo’s song, is her use of aggression throughout her lyrics. Avril Lavigne shows that she is better than this boy’s current girlfriend by using insulting quotes and aggressive lyrics. “She’s like so whatever/ you could do so much better “. Another one of the major differences in this song is the change in sex. Avril Lavigne is saying that she wants to be the boy’s “Girlfriend”. Avril Lavigne expresses her aggression through inappropriate language and using cuss words.
The band The Rubinoo’s, has a much different approach to their song. The topics of the song may be the same, and they are also asking for the same type of relationship. The Rubinoo’s go about it in a much different manner than Avril. In their song, “I wanna be your boyfriend”, The Rubinoo’s are lacking the aggressive, sassy approach that Lavigne takes on in her song, “Girlfriend”. They are more-so trying to win the girl over by using intense imagery and not using cuss words. “When I see you smile”, “Sitting here so close together” This gives a vast image of how the band feels about this certain girl. They leave out the inappropriate language and leave out the forceful language about other males and say that they want to be her “number one”. Unlike the song “Girlfriend”, there is a change of sex. The boy is trying to win the girl over in this song rather than the girl trying to steal the boy.
Though there are many differences in each of these songs, there are also many reasons in which the songs remain similar. One of the main reasons these songs were chosen to be compared is their similar choice in topic of the song. Each song is about youth, and how important it is to each artist to have a boyfriend/girlfriend. Each artist is forcefully showing their love toward the opposite sex and how much they want to make it “official”. Many of the words that are used throughout both sets of lyrics make the songs very similar. There is frequent usage of the words “Hey” and “You”. These words show that the artists are directing the song particularly at someone. It shows that the song is most likely only directed at one person, rather than an entire audience. These artists and their songs are a great example of how songs can be both different and similar to one and other.

Tonal Analysis

“Strawberry Fields Forever”- The Beatles

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone
But it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

No one I think is in my tree
I mean it must be high or low
That is you know you can't tune it
But it's all right
That is I think it's not too bad

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

Always know sometimes it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean a "Yes"
But it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever

Shifting from a sad orphan boy, to a happy boy The Beatles by utilize naturalistic imagery, hopeful lyrics, and  first-person narrative to convey the hopeful, yet solemn tones that “nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about” in the Strawberry Fields..

The song “Strawberry Fields Forever” which is originally about John’s real life as a child. When he was a child he would go down to the “Strawberry Fields” to get away from his home life. He lived as an orphan and the lyrics convey that the “Strawberry Fields” was a safe spot for him. The Beatles use naturalistic imagery in the verse “No One is in my tree I think” “I mean it must be high or low” This uses imagery and demonstrates the tone of happiness the boy is feeling. The boy is happy because he is alone and “Living is easy with eyes closed”. Meaning if he shuts his eyes to all of the bad things that are happening outside of the “Strawberry Fields”, Life will be easy.

The Beatles distribute great use of hopeful lyrics throughout the song “Strawberry Fields Forever”. They show that in the “Strawberry Fields” everything is good and nothing bad can, or is happening in the outside world. In the verses “It’s getting hard to be someone but it all works out” “It doesn't matter much to me”. This shows a hopeful tone of lyrics because even though it is hard to be someone, they still have hope that “it all works out”. In the verse “I mean it must be high or low/That is you know you can't tune it/But it's all right/That is I think it's not too bad”. This shows a hopeful tone as well. The Beatles are showing a hopeful tone saying that It is “all right” and that they think it’s “Not too bad” when they are in the Strawberry Fields.

A first person narrative is used throughout the whole song. The artists are singing the song to an audience and also include themselves in the lyrics to show that they are the character in their story. The Beatles use words such as “Me, and I’m” to show that they are the protagonist in the story of the song. “It doesn’t matter much to me” “Let me take you” “No one I think is in MY tree” These are all showing first person narrative that also convey a hopeful tone. It also shows a solemn tone because the boy has to go to this place to feel safe, and feels that everyone should feel as safe as he does.

The Beatles have a great way of using their tone to make the song into a good story to listen to. The first person narrative is a good attribute to the tone because it shows how the character was exactly feeling at the time.Their use of hopefully happy and solemn tones all help to show that when you go to the "Strawberry Fields" everything is alright.
